Equi-Flex
Horse & Rider Biomechanics

Helping you and your horse reach full potential!

Regardless of how often you ride, the way we ride can directly impact the horse's performance, balance and overall well-being. This can also affect the rider's safety and effectiveness to communicate with the horse. Therefore, you don't have to be a top competition rider to consider this horse & rider biomechanics programme.

Horse & rider biomechanics refers to the interplay between the movement and mechanics of both the horse and rider.

Nikki's experience and knowledge around Pilates, mindfulness practices, stretching and massage therapy significantly crosses over. Using them together creates a dynamic synergy in improving the relationship between the horse and rider and encourages clear communication between the two, creating harmony in the saddle!

Being a rider herself, and having experienced pain and physical injury. Nikki can understand first hand how the use of Pilates and massage for the horse and rider can help correct negative patterns created due to the injury and bad postural habits when riding.

Over the years Nikki found herself using Pilates, massage therapy, fascia and soft tissue release on both riders and horses but very much so on an individual basis. It has become apparent that there is a strong connection between these to improve the ridden relationship with your horse.

Nikki is offering a unique and personalised tailored biomechanics programme on a 1:1 basis with both the horse and rider.

This package can be linked with any existing training programme including your riding lessons. Infact, Nikki encourages this!

Session 3: 1:1 with the rider involving a gentle physical assessment relevant to key areas highlighted from session 1. Detecting potential physical riding barriers, muscle testing to detect weakness and discomfort. Agree on key physical areas, in response we work through a personalised mobility, strength, Pilates programme. It may be necessary to replace or add with relevant soft tissue therapy. In response to this session, you will be given a tailored programme to take away and action prior to session 5.

It is advisable this five step programme be completed within a six week period. In the unforeseen circumstances either the rider or horse is injured the programme can be adjusted accordingly. There is also an opportunity to 'pick n mix' sessions to accommodate existing commitments.

Nikki believes the above programme is an achievable and practical approach to improving symmetry in the saddle. Depending on outcomes in session 1 and consideration of existing training programmes in place, will depend on the final aims and goals. It may be deemed for further massage or movement sessions added as you progress.

1:1 Sessions are tailored and personalised for you, the rider. The 'take-away' training plan is made up of strength, mobility,  stretching, Pilates and key exercises to meet the goals and aims agreed in session 1.
"There's so much to consider around rider biomechanics, therefore this approach seems the most practical to suit varying needs and requirements".
